Toyota revamped the legendary 1KD engines in 2015 with the newly developed 1GD-FTV 2.8 liter common rail turbo diesel engines. Featuring the world’s first production use of Thermo Swing Wall Insulation Technology™ which increas­es the engine’s thermal efficiency by as much as 44 % despite having a small­er engine displacement. As a result, peak torque is increased while improving ef­ficiency by as much as 15%. The 1GD-FTV engines also employ the first use of Toyota’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system in a production vehicle allow­ing them to eliminate up to 99% of emissions without degrading fuel economy
